Indie Pop Genre Background
Indie pop is a genre of alternative rock music, which originated in the UK, in the mid-1980's. The term 'indie' is used to describe artists on independent labels, and the labels themselves. The typical instruments which are used by indie pop artists are guitars, bass and drums, along with the vocals themselves.
Artists such as F.U.N, Ellie Goulding, Florence and the Machine, The Hoosiers, The Lumineers, Of Monsters and Men and The Wombats are all categorised into the indie pop genre.
The typical conventions that are followed with indie pop genres are that on covers, mostly bright, fun, vibrant colours are used, with easy to understand language and simple formats throughout articles etc, however some of the front covers on magazines have minimal text situated around the main image. Also the images used on the covers tend to be mostly close ups including, medium close ups, close ups and extreme close ups.
