Evaluation - Presentation and Written work
This was our presentation powerpoint that we as a group created, which was part of our Evaluation, along with the written work.
We each described the reasonings for choosing the colours, title, articles and images ect, throughout the powerpoint. We also explained the target audience of our magazine, along with objectives that we had set ourselves. |
In what way does the magazine use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of media products you have studied so far? The front cover has elements which are conventional and those which are challenging the norms. We used a conventional layout of a school magazine, with a large masthead situated at the top in the center, along with an image related to the topic of our magazine and feature articles around the sides. The name of our magazine is called ‘Jeunes’ which is French, meaning young people. This also makes our magazine, unusual and unique to any other standard magazine. This is ideal for our target audience as we are trying to attract young people and, by using the French language, we are doing so subtly. Using French may capture a niche audience, as it is not accessible for everyone, however we have coupled this with a standard and ordinary image, which reflects the topic of our magazine, school. How does your product represent a particular social group? Our title of our magazine is called Jeunes, meaning young people, in French. We chose the French name because it is one of the languages spoken in this school, which would help relate it to particular people. On our front cover we used a picture of a 6th form student, which reflects who the magazine is instantly targeted for. The main picture on the front cover is in the library, located on the right hand side, because the reader’s eyes are instantly drawn to that corner. The books located in the picture also have the word ‘success’ written on them, which is ironic due to the magazine and it’s selling point, as students will be studying for upcoming exams. The reason why we also chose to have the student facing down, because then it can be aimed at either gender and also the colours chosen are neutral to ensure we aren’t targeting one specific gender. The feature articles that have been situated on the sides of our magazine cover, where chosen because they were the most common in our questionnaire, which would help us develop the magazine because we would know that the target audience would have an interest in the magazine, as we based the articles on what they chose. |
Who would be the audience for your product? The audience for our magazine is young people, hence the name, aged between 16-19 years old. It is also targeted at people in 6th form, because our feature articles are based on study tips, university open days and school life in general, because with this advice and help it will be beneficial to them throughout the year(s). We chose this because us ourselves are 6th formers and can relate to their interests and what they are going though. We also chose to advertise a free gift, of a discount ticket (buy one get one free), to Thorpe Park, we chose this because then it is also aimed at both genders and being young 6th formers ourselves, know that they would enjoy it there. It also involves a fun side towards the magazine and our audience. How do you attract/address your audience? We attract our target audience, young people/6th formers aged 16-19, though the name of our magazine, through the articles and what they are based on and also though the image situated on the front cover because it is exactly what 6th formers will go through during the year(s). We chose to take a mid-shot photo for the front cover so that students can see them working hard from a different and outside perspective. The articles we chose to position on the front cover and contents page were the most wanted from the information on the questionnaires. We therefore knew that it would attract our specific target audience. On our contents page we designed it with colourful splashes of paint which add a bright, fun and appealing look to our overall magazine. What have you learnt about your technologies in constructing this product? Throughout the development of this magazine cover and contents page I have generally learnt how to use Photoshop, by editing pictures, creating texts, importing pictures and changing colours and fonts, all the basics of the softwear. Through doing the preliminary task it has been very essential because I didn’t have any idea how the soft wear works, to begin with. I also learnt and understood how to add a 3D text, which meant we could add an interesting and fun side to the front cover, making it original. |
